Aveiro, Coimbra & Nazaré

(181017) Porto (Espinho) -> Coimbra via Aveiro
On the way to Lisbon, we wanted to see what’s in between Porto and Lisbon. Our first destination was Aveiro. It was half way to Coimbra. During the train ride…

Following this we couldn’t find anything further interesting but then there was this. The center of Aveiro where you can have a ride in long boats like in Venice, Italy.

After spending a few hours in Aveiro, the train went on to Coimbra. Our host’s house was a little bit far from the train station so we wanted to go by bus. But…it was impossible, because the bus map is so inscrutable and it is not possible to get into it. The only way without spending money is walking and the streets of Coimbra are everything else than flat. It was just going up and up. But we made it and as we arrived at our hosts place we were very exhausted.
Our host were a couple and real backpackers. They went out and we ate some pizza before taking a well earned nap.

We spent two days in Coimbra and went out with another couchsurfer every day. He is a street musician and is always playing for money for traveling and food.

(211017) Coimbra -> Nazaré
A local in Porto told us, beside further great places in Portugal, to have a stop over in Nazaré. On the way to Lisbon it was the perfect stop in between. We took the train to a nearby village, called Valado, because Nazaré has no direct train connection. As we arrived we walked to the only road straight to Nazaré to catch a car. A woman originally from Porto brought us directly to the beach. We watched the surroundings and relaxed a bit. The city is not too big and very beautiful with its environment around. Especially the waves were insane that it was impossible to go for a swim.
Afterwards we looked for a supermarket to buy food for dinner and breakfast. Because we had no bed in the city we stayed outside and needed to find a good place to stay. Near the coast was a very cool spot with an impressive view in the morning.

Ein Local in Porto hat uns, neben anderen schönen Plätzen in Porto, empfohlen Nazaré zu besuchen. Auf dem Weg nach Lissabon war es nochmal ein perfekter Halt. Wir nahmen den Zug bis Valado, da Nazaré keine direkte Zuganbindung besitzt. Nachdem wir ankamen liefen wir einfach die einzige Straße in Richtung Nazaré bis uns eine Frau aus Porto aufgabelte und bis zum Strand mitnahm. Wir sahen uns etwas um und ließen uns erst einmal nieder. Die Stadt ist nicht alt zu groß und die Umgebung ist wunderschön. Aber besonders die Wellen sind gigantisch und man konnte da nicht einfach baden gehen. Leider.

Only one full day in Nazaré but it was okay and  it is very recommendable for relaxing and spending time at the beach. I would say it is better to go there in the off season.
I woke up very early and the night was quiet cold that I jumped out of my tent to see the sun rising. My eyes were able to see things like the following. The sunset was in my back ^^.

After breakfast we put our stuff into the backpacks and started walking around including the viewpoint ‚Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo‘. The waves were huge again and you could see lots of people with cameras taking photos of the competition of the surfers. But what it looked like..

The rest of the day was calm. An outdoor socket of a restaurant charged our gadgets and we just spent time at the beautiful beach.

Der restliche Tag verlief ruhig. An einer Außensteckdose eines Restaurants konnten wir unsere Geräte laden und sonst waren wir einfach nur am schönen Strand. 

As the early evening raised we were looking for another place to stay than the night before. After some sweaty metres up a mountain we got this in return.

Thanks to the local guy in Porto for such a great recommendation. Our stops between Porto and Lisbon were amazing. We bumped into great people and saw wonderful landscapes.
